Who knew that all-natural coconut oil, plus this one special ingredient, could really whiten your teeth?
If you've ever been on any form of social media, the chances are that you've seen posts and blogs about coconut oil. You've seen it replace vegetable oil and used in a plethora of recipes, and you've probably learned that coconut oil can be used as a moisturizer or even a basic toothpaste. Well, here's a new idea for you...
Scrolling through a Facebook news-feed has become a great way to learn new wellness tips and tricks. There are so many wellness advocates and "crunchy mamas" who are brilliant, well-researched, and love to share their knowledge. So when this concoction popped up the other day, we knew we had to share it with the Paleo Baking Company family. Why? Because activated charcoal is a fantastic tooth whitener. And who doesn't want whiter teeth?
Coconut oil is anti-microbial and anti-fungal, meaning that it works to clean out the germs in your mouth. Activated charcoal is a uniquely absorbent substance, and it removes toxins from tooth enamel which can then be rinsed away. Wellness Mama has a fantastic blog with extensive information on how this all works.
Warning: Be VERY careful with the charcoal in its powder form, as it will stain any surface that it touches. Don't worry, it will wash off of your teeth without staining them.
If we are concerned about what we eat, should we not be equally concerned about the chemicals in our toothpastes? Most toothpastes contain artificial sweeteners, chemicals, and yes, sometimes even plastic. Creating your own homemade toothpaste with simple natural ingredients is one way you can reduce the amount of artificial chemicals in your household.
